STUDY GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE BY STUDENTS

STUDY GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE BY STUDENTS
In order to ensure adequate and “effective” comprehension both of lectures and reading of recommended tests I suggest to all my students to use the following guidelines in their personal studies. I have already tried these guidelines in a test given to my POL4301 students and four of them have got everything correctly. The guidelines are as follows:
1. A full title of the topic treated
2. In which week of the lecture semester was it treated
3. State in a sentence or two the overall subject-matter of the discussion on the topic
4. Make an effective summary (not more than 1o lines) of the lecture.
5. Identify the main ideas and their supporting details
6. Ask yourself a question from the lecture discussion/note and answer the question
7. Write the full (including the author, the year of publication, the publisher and where it was published) title of text recommended for you to do a weekly assignment on this topic
8. Identify and list five main ideas and their supporting details from this particular text.
9. Formulate a hypothetical statement from the text and direct to which page it could be found
10. Make a critical comment on any idea from the text.
