INTRODUCTION

M.M. Yusif

Introduction
A teacher and a researcher by professional training, M.M. Yusif is known and respected as a teacher and an Activist in the struggle to change the society towards the interest of the working class. Wherever, he finds himself to speak, whatever is the subject it is refocused to address and raise questions about the problems and prospects of changing the lives of workers under capitalist exploitation and oppression.

M.M. Yusif is popular among his students for opening their eyes and exposing them to politics and economics of globalisation which gives them an insight into the current trends of global economic relations. Most importantly are the methods of teaching, through the modern information and communication used to carry the enthusiasm of the young students in the university.

He has successfully marched learning and education with Activism and practice for faster articulation and reformulation of the ideas learned. His introduction of WTO mock summit in the Bayero University, Kano – Nigeria has become a National matter of discourse among Nigerian students.

M.M. Yusif is an academician and Activist. He is always more comfortable in political discourse to find solutions to problems of workers struggles in Nigeria and internationally. Indeed, he had been an adviser to peasant political groups, trade unions, theatre work organisations as well as all the existing radical student organisations in Bayero University, Kano. This is in addition to holding official capacity in ASUU, WIN, NAFCA, AFADEK, and had worked in different capacity in left organisations and Pro-democracy Movements.

He is the peoples’ intellectual so he becomes subject to many forms of persecution and discrimination. One of these were series of arrests, house check, interrogation and detention by State Security Service and Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Forging a head inspite of everything, he is making a silent and quite revolution together with his students in generation and dissemination of ideas with wider political and practical implications.
