INTERNET WEEK FOR TEACHING, LEARNING AND RESEARCH FOR
POL 3314/POL 2204/POL 4313 STUDENTS

- Refer to the piece of paper titled “How to use internet to source reading materials”.
- This week (from ______________ to __________) is internet week for teaching, learning and research
- Do not fear use of internet. You don’t have to be ICT guru to use internet for the purpose of your studies.
- So, if you do not know how to use internet, just do it during this week. You can carry your friend who knows how to do it either to the BUK ICT facilities or to any café in the town
- It is not a big deal to know how to use internet
a) Since internet is a global network of computers sharing information, first know the computer peripherals and their functions. These are the CPU i.e. Central Processing Unit; the monitor; the keyboard; the mouse. These are of the desktop system. But there are laptops and palmtops in which all the parts are built into one.
b) Secondly. In order to get into the internet, there is internet explorer icon, so double-click on the internet explorer icon then it will open
c) Then open the search icons which will show you the search engines i.e. Goggle; Yahoo; etc. choose and click
d) Then write what you want search for in the bar
e) Then from here you can browse. This means to search. So following the step you can arrive to what you want and download the material
f) The internet has many resources for teaching, learning and research (see M.M. Yusif, 2006)
- During the week each student is to browse and download any material relevant to subject matter of the course
- Comment on this material and give the website as well as from which web search it is found
- What technical problem have you come across on the internet? How did you solve the problem
- Submit a short report – not more than two pages

- Then you will meet in your respective Seminars during the week to be briefed and given similar orientation by your seminar leaders on how to access the “EBSCO HOST” online library for journals.
- Discuss the lesson received from your seminar leaders until you understand how each one of you could do it very well
- If there is need each seminar can collectively go to any café or to the ICT facilities on the campus in order to learn it practically.
- Each student would on his/her own reach the “EBSCO HOST” e-journal library and access any article in any e-journal relevant to the subject-matter of the teaching programme I introduced to the students.
- One can access relevant articles from any political studies journal, but students can browse and search for relevant journals dealing with issues on the central themes defined for teaching of POL 3314, POL 4313 and POL 2204 in 2006/2007 Academic Session
- Each student would write a two page report on his/her experience during the week. Especially dealing with accessing the online library and the available resources seen.
