Enhancing Students Capacity in Learning through the use of Computers, Internet and E-Mail

In the 2004/2005 academic session I introduced all my undergraduate classes to use of internet in learning. The advantages of this method are already noticeable in my students. First, their performance in examinations is very qualitative. Secondly, many of my students have developed the culture of use of information and Communication Technologies, not only in their studies but in all their other endeavours. Thirdly, all my students have acquired the skills of Independent Research Work through the use of ICTs. Fourthly, you would recall, the WTO mock summit by some of my students last academic session. That is the result of the exposure to internet by the students. To cap it all the culture of ICTs in my students has transformed learning into a method of learners – orientation Approach to Education.

This academic session we are going to consolidate the success we have achieved on the use of ICT in Teaching, Learning and Research. In the first place, in both Pol 4301, 4313, and 3314 we would examine how the ICT is used to re-orient teaching and research as well as development of new content and curriculum on the courses. Secondly, we would introduce the use of e-mail in our studies and researches. Finally, we would form Groups in all the classes for promotion of awareness on use of ICT by students

These groups may be called:
1. Students Cyber Club
2. Partners for Internet in Learning

The specific objectives of these clubs include
1. To facilitate exchange of experience and information about ICT among students
2. To improve the use of internet – based learning among the students
3. To encourage teachers using e-mail and the internet
4. To promote ICT culture among my students
5. To push students progressively into internet-based computer assisted learning methods
6. To bring out creative ways to develop learning and teaching using ICTs
