Politics in Nigeria: Notes for Discussion by Political Activists in Kano

Politics in Nigeria: Notes for Discussion by Political Activists in Kano

Þ   The essence of politics is people with different interests come together to plan and decide to achieve a goal for national development.

Þ   This is without saying that this can be done without differences. History has shown that people with differences who agreed to come together to play politics with differences and of differences achieve great deal of development.

Þ   Nigeria’s political environment is marked by many differences – class, national, regional, religious, etc.

Þ   Since this meeting is not a seminar class for dispute on this, lets, agree that these exist in Nigeria.

Þ   Furthermore, I think we are lacking of a national leader who can go beyond all these irrational influences on our body politic.

Þ   So, what could we do to create this kind of leaders and this kind of politics in Nigeria?

Þ   It is not easy to get a straightforward answer to this question, but it is also politics to start somewhere, with thinking of an alternative goal. As this may create dynamics which may be fovourable and set another kind of politics in motion.

Þ   This may come up with another kind of party, with a programme to appeal to various interests in the society.

Þ   That would push the party towards a theory of Alliance under which the practice may suitably emerged.
Þ   The party must imbibe patience, not necessarily and immediately an electoral instrument. Just to fight for real democracy, patiently to mobilize the people as well as cadres of moving the party.

Þ   In order to avoid getting the party into similar political game of the old parties, we talk only of ideas to the people.
